Welcome to Heanton Punchardon, an ancient manor and parish which covers much of the north bank of the Taw estuary and straddles the route to North Devon\u2019s famous beaches. More than just Braunton\u2019s hinterland, the manor of Heanton Punchardon dates from the Conquest, when the \u2018high farm\u2019 and its estate were granted to Sir Richard de Pont Chardon, a Norman knight who had fought alongside William at the Battle of Hastings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A small parish just five miles long and two miles wide, Heanton contains a rich mixture of rural pastureland, estuarial riverbank, a large and growing wildlife reserve, the three small settlements of Wrafton, Chivenor and Heanton Punchardon, and North Devon\u2019s largest workplace, the Royal Marines Base at Chivenor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the Parish Council, we are dedicated to maintaining its independent identity as a rural parish which is a haven for nature and wildlife, and a place where people from near and far can find the natural peace and tranquillity which is the hallmark of North Devon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
